👪 How Parent Approval Works
When your child creates an account or uploads a video, here's exactly what happens:
📋 Account Creation
- Date of birth is required during signup — no exceptions
- If the user is under 18, they must provide a parent/guardian email
- Parent receives an email to verify and approve the account
- Until the parent approves, the child's uploads are blocked

Important: This applies to every upload, every time — even for 17-year-olds. Parents should always know what their kids are sharing publicly.
🤖 Automated Content Safety
Before any human ever sees a video, our automated systems scan the title and description for:
- Profanity & slurs — Instantly rejected with a clear message
- Drug references — Blocked before submission
- Violence & weapons — Auto-rejected content mentioning harm
- Sexual content — Zero tolerance, instant block
- Hate speech & extremism — Blocked at every level
- Scams & spam — "Free Robux" and similar scams are blocked
Flagged words that aren't outright violations still get highlighted for priority human review. We'd rather over-moderate than under-protect.
👍 UpTick — Positive Reactions Only
Instead of comments sections (which are magnets for bullying), CleanStream uses UpTick — a curated positive reaction system:
- 20 handpicked messages — like "This is incredible!" and "Keep it up!"
- No free-text comments — Bad actors literally cannot type anything
- One reaction per user per video — No spam, no pile-ons
- Categories: Hype 🔥, Encouragement 💪, Thinking 🧠, Positivity ✨, Fun 🎉
The result: Every piece of feedback a young creator receives is positive, constructive, and safe.
🚩 Viewer Reporting System
Even with automated screening and human review, we rely on our community to help:
- Any viewer can flag a video with a reason ("Inappropriate content", "Bullying", etc.)
- If a video receives 3 reports, it's automatically pulled from public view
- Pulled videos enter an emergency review queue for the moderation team
- False reports are tracked — repeat false reporters may lose reporting privileges
⭐ Creator Trust System
We reward creators who consistently upload quality, appropriate content:
- New creators — Every video goes through full review
- Rising creators (5+ approved, 0 rejected) — Priority review placement
- Trusted creators (15+ approved, clean record) — Faster review times
Note: Minors are never auto-approved regardless of trust level. Parent approval is always required.
🎭 Identity & Impersonation Protection
- Reserved usernames — Names like "admin", "moderator", "cleanstream_staff" are blocked to prevent impersonation
- Date of birth required — Every user must provide their DOB; there's no way to access upload features without it
- No uploads without parent email — Minors who haven't added a parent/guardian email simply cannot upload
- Display name filtering — Names are screened for authority-impersonating patterns
🔒 Data We Collect & Your COPPA Rights
What we collect:
- Email address (login only — never shown publicly)
- Display name / username (shown on videos)
- Date of birth (to determine age — never displayed)
- Parent/guardian email (for approval emails only)
- Videos and metadata (title, description, category)
What we DON'T collect:
- ❌ Location / GPS data
- ❌ Device identifiers for advertising
- ❌ Behavioral tracking or browsing history
- ❌ Third-party analytics or ad pixels
Your rights as a parent (COPPA):
- Review all data we hold about your child
- Delete your child's account and all data within 30 days
- Correct any inaccurate information
- Revoke consent at any time

- Ages 4+ — Simple, gentle content for young children
- Ages 6+ — Early elementary: beginner subjects, simple how-tos
- Ages 8+ — Elementary: science, history, starter gaming
- Ages 10+ — Middle grades: complex topics, more advanced gaming
- Ages 13+ — Teen content (still 100% family-safe)
Creators select an age rating during upload. Our moderation team verifies it's accurate before the video goes live.
